The Vancouver Northeast is made up of three Vancouver neighbourhoods – Hastings-Sunrise, Renfrew-Collingwood and part of Cedar Cottage-Kensington.
It includes some of the oldest parts of Vancouver and some of the newest! The first road, the first hotel, and the first post office in the Vancouver area were built in the town of Hastings. Today, some of the newest developments in Vancouver are in the Renfrew Collingwood area, one of the fastest growing communities in Vancouver.
About 100,000 people live in Northeast Vancouver. More than half are immigrants and after English, the languages most commonly spoken are Cantonese and Mandarin.
The area is well served by public transit with two Sky Train lines running through it. They meet at the busiest Sky Train Station in B.C., located at Broadway and Commercial, very close to the Vancouver Northeast Employment Centre.
Local residents are well served by several libraries, community centres and neighbourhood houses. Most of the local employers are small and medium sized businesses, primarily in the Services and Retail sectors.
