Building Blocks Vancouver

Free home-based parenting support services to first time parent.

  • Are you expecting your first baby or know someone who is expecting their first baby?
  • Are you a first time parent living in Vancouver?
  • Are you feeling anxious, isolated or worried about being a parent?
  • Are you loking for service provided in Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjabi or English?
  • Are you interested in a supportive, inclusive service for you and your child? 

If so, you may be eligible for the Building Blocks Vancouver program. Building Blocks Vancouver provides free, home-based, parenting support services to first time parents. If you are feeling anxious, worried or have questions about the experience of giving birth and becoming a parent for the first time, Building Blocks Vancouver is here to support you. Building Blocks Vancouver is inclusive to any first time parent, living in the city of Vancouver. Building Blocks Vancouver is voluntary and you can receive services beginning from the last trimester of pregnancy up until your first child reaches the age of five. Program staff speak several languages, including Spanish, English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjabi and Vietnamese. Building Blocks Vancouver is strictly confidential and follows/abides by MOSAIC’s privacy and confidential policies and practices.

Building Blocks Vancouver includes weekly home visits, family events or outings, and offers several, informal parenting support groups (bus tickets provided). Building Blocks Vancouver‘s program staff are: Home Visitors, Public Health Nurse consultants and Social Work consultants. As a team, they offer support by: listening to you and hearing your concerns; giving you encouragement; accompanying you to a variety of appointments; and, by sharing information about community resources, childcare, parenting, health and social issues.  

Parenting groups include: Mother Goose, Nobody’s Perfect and Alphabet Soup. All groups are offered with no specific start  or end date, but they are usually during Spring and Fall.  When offered, the parenting groups run for 6 to 10 weeks.

Family events and outings include a summer picnic, a winter party, and opportunities to attend group outings, including city parks, farms, the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and the PNE.  

You can join Building Blocks Vancouver if:

  • you live in Vancouver (excluding North and West Vancouver);
  • you are a first time parent or will be parenting a child for the first time;
  • at the time of referral, you are in your last trimester of pregnancy or you have a child under the age of 6 months.
