Awards and Honours Received

2015

  • The Immigrant Employment Council of BC has honoured MOSAIC with an award for “Leadership and Commitment” for its role as a founding partner in the new MentorConnect Program. IEC-BC held its first Leadership Recognition Awards event on April 9, 2015 at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver. A total of nine awards were handed out in five categories which included: organizations; member associations; immigrant serving organizations; professional immigrant networks and individuals.
  • MOSAIC was selected to receive the 2015 Riasat Ali Khan Diversity Award from AMSSA for MOSAIC’s commitment to empowering immigrants and refugees and supporting the creation of welcoming and inclusive communicates. I Belong project was recognized by its exemplary example of innovative and groundbreaking program development. I Belong was launched in October 2014 to support LGBTQ immigrant newcomers by seeking to address the intersectionality between sexuality, gender, race, cultural diversity, class, criminalization and colonialism.

2014

  • Burnaby Family Life (BFL), at its Annual General Meeting, gave an award to Mark Batt, the Manager of our North Burnaby Learning Centres for his leadership as a strong partner of BFL's. BFL provides childcare for the children of LINC students in both of our North Burnaby Centres. Mark was described as "approachable and friendly ... easy to build a strong relationship with." He was praised for so ably managing the Centres, always keeping BFL informed about what's going on and always willing to help out. Mark was credited with providing a permanent home for BFL's Drop-In program and with supporting the professional development of staff.

1991

  • Settlement Workers Recognition: At the Welcoming Ceremony during Immigration Week, the BC/Yukon Region of the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission awarded Certificates of Appreciation to 12 community workers who have provided years of valuable service in the settlement of new immigrants. Seven of these certificates were awarded to MOSAIC staff: Ilona Saramo (Hungarian Settlement Worker), Dominic Fung (Chinese Settlement Worker), Rosalinda Moniz (Portuguese Settlement Worker), Miriam Mauer (Spanish Settlement Worker), Marina Yelchinko (Russian/Ukrainian Settlement Worker), Hemi Dhanon (Hindi/Punjabi Settlement Worker) and Maria Roche (Polish Settlement Worker). The MOSAIC Board of Directors are proud of their achievement and value their continued standard of excellence in community service.

1988

  • Refugee Council honours MOSAIC worker: Roxana Aune, one of MOSAIC’S three Latin American Community workers and herself an immigrant from Costa Rica, was honoured in October by the Vancouver Refugee Council for her committed volunteer work. The Refugee Council recognized the exemplary contributions Roxana Aune makes to refugee services in addition to her MOSAIC case load, at the third annual Refugee Services Day ceremony on October 27.
