The February edition of our newsletter is now available for download. The highlight is this month's Culture and Conversation night... we're taking program participants out for an Olympic Celebration Sites Marathon on February 16. Also see inside for information on free local community activities, fun February holidays and some local volunteer opportunities.
An article highlighting the success of our Workplace Connections mentoring program for newcomers was recently published on HRVoice, an online human resources magazine. This program finds volunteer mentors for new immigrants seeking work and has helped over 90 newcomers since it began in September 2008.
Immigrant Engineers packed a recent workshop at MOSAIC on how to get a job in their field. Virtually all the areas of specialization were represented. They were trained in Iran, thePhilippines, Russia, China, Turkey and Mexico in many different disciplines.
The workshop gave them the opportunity to hear from and ask questions to representatives from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC and the Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC. The Engineers told us they picked up lots of useful tips about qualifying for jobs in their profession. This workshop is part of a series being organized by the Skills Connect for Immigrants Program.
